The Uttar Pradesh government announced the establishment of the university as Act No. 32 of 2006 through its October 30, 2006, Gazette No. 362/VII-V-1-1(Ka)-12/2006.

The highly esteemed National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) gave Mangalayatan University a Grade A+ in the first recognition cycle in recognition of its outstanding performance in teaching, research, and extension. On a 4-point scale, the University's Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) proved 3.34.
