The English department at Delhi University recently increased the cost of its PhD program by a factor of twelve, which has angered students as well as teachers who see this as a step toward the commercialization of education. Independent validation from a number of professors has confirmed that the fee has increased from Rs 1,932 to an outrageous Rs 23,968 this year. Comparatively, it is said that the average tuition for PhD programs at the university is roughly Rs 4,400.
