Post-doctoral fellowship courses are offered by NMC to advance clinical skill development and research.
To encourage clinical skill development and research, the National Medical Commission, which supervises medical education, has for the first time instituted post-doctoral fellowship programs in medical colleges under its jurisdiction.
Until recently, medical schools have been developing and authorizing these courses at their discretion to teach physicians.
The “Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023,” which were recently announced by the regulator, provide that a medical college’s PG program will be recognized as soon as it receives approval to begin offering courses or seats.
This will address the challenges that students have while registering for their degree following successful completion of postgraduate exams, according to Dr. Vijay Oza, President of the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Post-Graduate Medical Education Board.
The current NEET-PG test will continue until the planned National Exit Test (NExT) becomes operational for PG admission, by the new regulations that have superseded the Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2018.
