Deakin University and IIT-Madras established a research academy; thirty scholarships are available
The “IIT Madras Deakin University Research Academy” is being introduced by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) in partnership with Deakin University in Australia. The Australian Consul General in Chennai, Sarah Kirlew, hailed the announcement during the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Talented graduate research scholars from SAARC and ASEAN nations will be nurtured at this research academy, which is being established on the campus of IIT Madras. These scholars will be prepared to tackle and resolve urgent global concerns.
Since 2012, the two institutes have worked together. To give early-stage researchers outstanding international doctorate training opportunities, this academy will offer a four-year joint PhD program. As part of this agreement, 30 scholarships from both IIT Madras and Deakin University will be awarded to scholars in 2024. In addition, the inclusion of clauses allowing academics and post-doctoral fellows to visit each other’s institutes is expected to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange even further. Deakin University will provide 10 research scholarship posts (for DU students) and IIT Madras will provide 20 research scholarship positions (for IM students) as part of this PhD program.
The first foreign university to open a campus in India will be Deakin University in Australia. The academic year is about to start, and the campus has been established in Gujarat’s GIFT City. Deakin is one of the top 50 young institutions in the world and is placed 266th in the QS World University Rankings.
